Red Pine Forest at Changtho in Mt Kumgang

The Red Pine Forest at Changtho is in the area of Kuryong Pool of Outer Kumgang in beautiful Mt Kumgang.

The name of Changtho was derived from the place for keeping spears and other weapons to defeat foreign invaders in the old days.

This is a simple forest which consists of old and young red pines.

The height of highest pine tree is 30m, girth of its root neck 3.2m, girth of its breast height 3m and width of its crown is 13m.

In October 1948, President Kim Il Sung visited the red pine forest and said that the pine trees are very good stressing the need to preserve well the trees and prevent forest fire.

The Red Pine Forest at Changtho is a natural monument which is preserved well as a scenic forest adding beauty to Mt Kumgang and a precious asset of the country.
