Russian Federation Council chairwoman decries West’s policy of confrontation

Valentina Matvienko, chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council, condemned the Western policy of confrontation with Russia at an interview with the newspaperMoskovskii Komsomoletson November 25. Referring to the West’s propaganda that Russia might attack in three years, she noted that it is geared to increasing investment in munitions businesses, maintaining power and diverting the attention of people from internal issues. Russia is interested in peace free from any threat from Ukraine, she said, adding that Russia is not fighting Ukraine, but NATO is fighting Russia by the hands of Ukrainians. Russia has the means to deal with the challenges of the times mercilessly and powerfully and will surely attain the objectives of the special military operations, she stressed. The Pyongyang Times, launched on May 6, 1965, is the DPRK's only English newspaper.
